A real fashionista knows that accessories can make or break a perfect outfit. Kelly Ferenc took this concept to the next level when she created the ultra-chic Bishop Boutique in Alexandria. Offering a must-have selection of shoes, handbags and accessories, there are enough options in her intimate store to suit any woman’s personal style. Northern Virginia Magazine got the chance to exclusively preview the boutique’s picnic-themed Spring/Summer lookbook (styled by Carlis Sanchez, one-half of the amazing blogging duo Spicy Candy D.C.), as well as chat with the owner about the accessories from Bishop you will be rocking all season long!

Q: How did you come up with the name for your store?
The grid of Old Town, with street names like King and Queen, has always reminded me of a chess board, and the missing piece was a Bishop!
Q: What inspired you to have a store mainly focused on accessories, handbags and shoes?
I love (love!) shoes – they have been my fashion must-have ever since I was little! To have my own shop in a community like Old Town is a dream come true. My amazing family, staff and friends make it possible for me to do what I love every day, and I’m so thankful!
Q: What is the inspiration behind this new lookbook?

We wanted the lookbook to reflect the fun and colorful pop of spring and summer. After such a long and cold winter, it’s always fun to celebrate the sunshine! Who doesn’t love throwing on their first dress of the season and strapping on their new shoes for a champagne picnic?!
Q: Why did you choose Old Town as your lookbook photo shoot location?
We wanted to showcase the character and beauty of Old Town.
Q: What are the accessory/shoe trends you are most excited about this season?
We are loving the ankle-strap trend we are seeing. The strap adds such a beautiful feminine detail that also serves a functional purpose! Can’t beat it!
Q: What is the one must-have item from Bishop this spring/summer?
Just one?! Every summer you have to have a killer pair of wedges. We love what Loeffler Randall and L.K Bennett designed this season. Your must-have bag has to be the yellow L.K Bennett “Crocus” tote, but you should probably make room for the Milly “Lobster” beach bag as well! For jewelry, it’s all about statement pieces, and moonstone is the stone for spring and summer. Margaret Elizabeth has some beautiful earrings and bangles that bring a look together perfectly.
